Hermitage Golf Club is situated in the beautiful part of the Liffey valley known as the Strawberry Beds. It is an area that crops up in song, story and legend, and so far, the City and County authorities have managed to keep the Strawberry Beds free of residential developments.
The golf club is unique in so much as it is within five miles of O'Connell Bridge at the centre of Dublin City and yet has the features and characteristics of a rural environment. In addition, the course is well drained because it slopes down to the river and as a result, it remains palyable in heavy rain when many other courses have to close.
This part of the river Liffey is popular as an aquatic sports area including rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
The course complements the river in a natural setting that is devoid of manmade alterations. The golf course lies between the road that, since earliest times is the main road to the west and the river Liffey. The terrain, at this point, rolls and slopes gently down to the river, giving rise to some lovely views.
